Artichoke Embroidery is an exquisite embroidered silk. Inspired by Morris own design Artichoke from 1877, it has repeating patterns of large traditional motifs, illustrating his preoccupation and love of near Eastern and Italian woven silks and velvets. Morris studied a number of these at the South Kensington Museum, now the Victoria & Albert Museum. Retaining the authenticity and beauty of the original, it is now available in four stunning colourways and is recommended for curtains.

Bamboo has been adapted from a design by E.W. Godwin of 1872. Like Morris Godwin was dedicated to beautifying the home and Oscar Wilde referred to him as One of the most artistic spirits of this century in England. Godwin was highly influenced by Japanese design and often used bamboo motifs in his work. Originally block printed by Jeffrey & Co. samples of the wallpaper can be found in the Morris & Co. Archive. This adaptation is taken from the original hand-painted watercolour housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Brer Rabbit is taken from a 17th century Italian silk and Morris first registered the design in 1882. Named after the Uncle Remus childrens books popular at the time this fabric design was originally indigo discharge printed. Today the Morris studio have tried to replicate the mottled appearance of this earlier method using modern printing processes. Available in wallpaper in co-ordinating colours.

Taken from our archive this design was originally a ceiling paper by Arts and Crafts designer Andrew Brophy (1844-1912). Weve recreated the structure of the trellis and added flowers and leaves from one of May Morriss authentic designs to create Brophy Trellis an incredibly usable embroidery which pairs beautifully with other Morris & Co. fabrics and wallpapers. This linen-blend upholstery fabric was inspired by a carpet hand-woven at Merton Abbey and exhibited by Morris & Co. at the 1893 Arts and Crafts Society exhibition. The original design probably came from the enormous Persian original hung by Morris in his dining room at Kelmscott House and is now produced in versatile, restful colourways and a wallpaper of the same name.
Please note this fabric is 139cm wide with the border (as shown in the image) and 103cm wide without the border.
